Meet Shannon

Hi, I’m Shannon.

I am a wife and mum to 2 boys, Henry & Charlie. I really struggled with motherhood. I found those early years like groundhog day and I didn’t enjoy it like I expected I would! I felt the pressures of wanting to be a ‘good mother’ and everyday felt that I was failing at it. I felt lost and alone.

I found an online tribe of women just like me, and with support and guidance I began to understand the physiological changes that we go through when we become mothers, and I began to embrace the journey. I also no longer felt alone.

I started Motherhood Embraced to support women who are going through what I went through, to support and guide them through the overwhelm, and ultimately see them embrace motherhood.

My background

Before motherhood, I had a strong drive to climb the corporate ladder and achieve great success. I pursued a Bachelor of Business with a major in Entrepreneurship, which led me to work in both small and large firms in management consulting and engineering.

I discovered a love for facilitating, which led me to pursue a Diploma in Primary School teaching. It was during this time that my anxiety first surfaced as I struggled with the highly stressful environment and demands of the education system.

After becoming pregnant with my first son, I returned to work in a part-time capacity, but things took a turn between my two boys. I found myself struggling with motherhood and losing my sense of identity, exacerbated by being unwell during my pregnancy.

As an independent woman, I had difficulty asking for help, and I didn’t even know what I needed or how to voice it. Seeking respite and support, I checked into a Mother and Baby unit when Charlie was three months old.

In my search for understanding and support, I discovered Amy Taylor-Kabbaz, a kindred spirit and fellow career-driven woman who had found herself on a similar path to mine. It was there that I realised the transformative process I was going through was called Matrescence, and I began to understand my journey. For seven years, I followed Amy’s work, completing every program she offered.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, I had a realisation that it was time to pursue my passion and create a business supporting mothers on their journey. I completed the ICF accredited Mama Rising program from Amy, and my coaching business, Motherhood Embraced, was born.

Now, I am dedicated to sharing my experience and learnings with other mothers to help them navigate their unique motherhood journeys with confidence and empowerment.

My approach

Supporting mothers whose children are 6 months and older, my focus is on assisting those who may feel adrift in the intricate web of motherhood, yearning to rediscover their identity and significance amid the relentless whirlwind of responsibilities and expectations that come with the role.

At Motherhood Embraced, my vision is for all mothers to embrace their role as caregivers and nurturers with confidence and pride, and to be valued in society for their hard work and sacrifices. I strive to contribute to a world where every mother feels empowered, supported, and recognized for the incredible impact she has on her family, her community, and the world.

Vision

My goal is to build a community that inspires and uplifts mothers, providing them with the resources and opportunities they need to thrive. I believe that by working together to support and celebrate motherhood, we can create a more compassionate, nurturing, and equitable society for all. I envision a world where every mother is seen, heard, and respected, and where the value of motherhood is acknowledged and appreciated.
