What If Motherhood Didn’t Have to Be This Hard? 🌿

First off, let’s be real—motherhood is beautiful, but also quite the rollercoaster ride, right? One minute you're a superhero, and the next, you’re hiding in the pantry for a moment of peace (no judgment here, I've been there!). It's okay to feel overwhelmed, and it’s absolutely okay to ask for help. We’re all in this together.

A Story from My Journey

Let me share a little story. One day, after what felt like an endless series of toddler tantrums, constantly hearing ‘Mum!’ on repeat, and mountains of laundry, I decided to take a moment for myself. I hid in the bathroom, turned on the bath to drown out some of the noise, and had a glass of wine in peace. It was ‘witching hour’ (remember that time of the day where you are trying to sort dinner, get your kids bathed, and you are all exhausted?). I had to run the bath for them anyway, but locking myself in there was what I needed to get a short break. That’s when I realised even in the chaos, I had to find ways to recharge. It was a small moment but it taught me the importance of seeking those little pockets of peace. It was also around this time that I was really diving into the inner work that I needed to do to find myself again. I had previously worked with a psychologist, who was what I needed in the immediate months following my time in a mother and baby unit, and then the passing of my much loved mother in law, but I needed something more, and I needed to do the work myself - unfortunately it couldn’t be done by anyone else.

How is coaching different to counselling or psychology sessions?

You might be wondering how coaching differs from counseling or psychology sessions. Here’s a quick breakdown:

- Coaching: Focuses on setting and achieving specific personal or professional goals. It's more about future planning and actionable steps with a supportive guide to help you stay on track. A coach helps you unlock your potential and make positive changes, offering practical strategies and accountability.

- Counseling/Psychology: Often deals with diagnosing and treating mental health issues, exploring past experiences, and understanding emotional pain. It tends to delve deeper into emotional healing and is typically conducted by licensed therapists or psychologists.

In essence, while counseling provides deep healing and understanding, coaching offers forward-looking guidance and growth towards your ambitions and life goals. And I am all about looking forward to the future you want!

Teaching Moment: Finding Your Daily “Me Time” 🕒

Now, for a little teaching moment—let’s talk about the elusive "me time." Yes, it’s a real thing, and it’s important! Here are three quick tips to carve out a few precious moments for yourself each day:

1. Set Boundaries: Let your family know that you need a short break. Use a funny sign on the door like, “Mum on a coffee break—approach with caution. ☕️”

2. Micro-Moments: Take advantage of micro-moments. Waiting for the pasta to boil? Do some deep breathing or a quick meditation.

3. Unplug: Hide the phone, tablet, or any screen for just 10 minutes. Read a book, enjoy the quiet, or do absolutely nothing (yes, it’s allowed!).

Remember, a happy mum makes a happy home. You need that little bit of time to recharge. 💖
